Science & Origin of Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is a sodium aluminum silicate-rich mineral combined with the metamorphic rock it grows within. You will always find Lazurite within Lapis Lazuli. However, Calcite, Pyrite, and Sodalite can also make an appearance. The name is derived from the Latin word “Lapis” meaning stone and the Persian word “lāzaward” meaning sky or heavens. In ancient times, Lapis Lazuli was incorrectly called Sapphire or the Latin word Sapphirus. The highest quality deposits are found in the Sar-e-Sand deposit in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan's Kochka River Valley. It is important to note that unlike most minerals, Lapis Lazuli is found within caves and not traditional mines. Other localities of Lapis include the Andes in Chile, Canada, Russia, Burma, and the United States.
Be Caution of Fakes
Lapis Lazuli is commonly faked due to the popularity its name carries in the new age movement. Aside from buying from trusted dealers, we recommend examining each piece while looking for common impurities. We suggest looking for differentials in each surface and to expect a denser weight due to its formation in a metamorphic rock. Since fake Lapis is often dyed Agate, be wary if the color is a very bright blue!
This mineral has some of the oldest societal uses tracing back to the Mesopotamians where it was traded between the Egyptians. Numerous historical relics have been created from this stone such as the Pillars in Saint Petersburg Cathedral, King Tutankhamen’s Sarcophagus, and the eyeshadow of Cleopatra. Lapis Lazuli was ground into a pigment and used within paintings by famed artists like Leonardo Divinci and Michaelangelo. In the Old Testament, Exodus stood upon a slate stone of Lapis and saw the God of Israel. To say that this stone impacted our planetary society is an understatement. Lapis Lazuli is an energetical building block of knowledge that our world has used since its birth.
Meaning & Energy
Lapis Lazuli is a stone that emboldens the communicative abilities between the mind, throat, and heart. One will shortly begin to find themselves radiating the truth of their emotional body. Lapis Lazuli’s energies promote heightened intellect, inner visions, and an expanded mental capacity.
Throughout the ages, Lapis Lazuli has been viewed as a stone of royalty between powerful kings, queens, dukes, and pharaohs. Our belief in the popularity of this stone was due to its untapped power. These individuals were secretly aware of the powerful effect Lapis Lazuli could have on the brain. Through deep meditation, they were able to understand their thoughts and sculpt their actions based on the knowledge that Lapis Lazuli provided them.
Lazurite, the main mineral component of Lapis Lazuli is a high vibrational stone. It opens up our third eye, promoting ascension, higher knowledge, and truth-seeking. These attributes combined with other mineral impurities (such as Pyrite, Calcite, and Sodalite) are all capable of reigniting different traits of who we are. For example, Pyrite inclusions in Lazurite assist in both processing your thoughts and manifesting them into reality. The Calcite variations will help awaken the mystical energies that lay dormant inside of you. Lastly, Sodalite will bolden your mental insight to provide a true understanding of how your thoughts are connected to your emotional body. Ideas are a powerful vibration that we emit and when we understand where they are coming from, we can begin to control them.

Science & Origin of Tiger Eye
Tiger Eye is a variety of Quartz and a pseudomorph (meaning false form) replacement of Crocidolite. It forms when Crocidolite has its chemical fibers replaced by silica. Its colors are generally a combination of golden browns, yellow, beige or tan. This mineral was first reported in 1892 by J.D. Dana and was clearly named after its similarities to a real tiger’s eye. The most abundant source of Tiger Eye is located beneath South Africa where most of the material on the market is sourced from. However, there are secondary deposits coming from India, Burma, Australia, China, and Brazil.
Chatoyant Cat’s Eye
Tiger Eye is known for its chatoyancy and shine when placed under the right light. When a piece is cut and polished correctly, you may be able to see a true “cat’s eye” formation. A cat’s eye is a light shimmering glaze that coats the stone but is incredibly hard to see unless it’s under the right light. This effect is caused by the mineral’s natural parallel structures and reflective light that hits these minute, needle-like fibers. Tiger Eye and all of its varieties (Hawk-Eye, Pietersite, Red Tiger Eye) are some of the very few minerals in existence capable of exhibiting this magical chatoyant effect.
Energy & Meaning
Tiger Eye is one of our favorite crystals for activating both our personal will and solar plexus chakra. When we open and engage our second brain, known as our gut, we are able to display a true array of emotions and qualities. If we allow ourselves to focus, our possibilities will become limitless and know no bounds. Opportunities and new beginnings will attach to you like a magnet when working this stone. It is up to you as to whether or not you would like to take advantage of what the universe is offering. This ever-loving energy is always actively expanding our consciousness and seeking to push us onto a higher path. Tiger Eye is a small tool that grants us the intuition to follow by feel and not by thought.
Tiger Eye helps one access their inner strength and channel it towards their personal needs and desires. This may come in the forms of creativity, drive, determination, and increased focus. This stone has been known to cause minor “obsessions” within people as it brings out the energetic side. Part of this is contributed to true, pure love being channelled from within our solar plexus chakra into something or someone we truly love. People may observe your actions to be different than what they are used to seeing and problems may arise. That is due in part to your blossoming change which may make others around you uncomfortable with their own path in life. At this point, others may try to spearhead your own personal campaign of self-betterment without even realizing the negative impact they are having. With Tiger Eye, we are able to envision not only our potential but our connections with others around us.
While actively using Tiger Eye eye we may notice ourselves shedding items as well as individuals that no longer suit us. In some cases, this may be personal relationships with whom you may have had a longstanding connection to. Have no fear, as you are beginning to experience a spiritual awakening. As we begin to break through and fully commit ourselves to this positively filled life-path, we may see loved ones as no longer helping us but actually hurting us. Don’t let this discourage your own self growth as others will have their own awakening at their pace. Through peace and love comes acceptance and growth.
Manifestation
We recommend meditating with Tiger Eye each morning or night with your ideas and desires at the forefront of your mind. Say these thoughts out loud so the universe can take hold of these dreams and make them become a reality. When channeling Tiger Eye’s powers, we become imbued with conjuring energy. These vibrations know no bounds and place us in an environment where our ideas can become a reality. Try pairing this mineral with other creative stones like Orange Calcite, Bumblebee Jasper, Pyrite, Mahogany Obsidian, Orange Aventurine, and Citrine!
